A memory from my teen years of sunbathing in this exact spot... Watching my brother and friends swim out to the shack! Fine art giclee prints of Northshore Lake Pontchartrain in Mandeville, LA. The Shack was a remnant of a fishing pier long gone, but this part remained for many years as an iconic right of passage to swim out and jump off the top for only those brave enough to do so. Sadly, Hurricane Katrina took it from us, so I felt the need to paint this for those who remember or at least get to hear the stories.
From our trip to the Gulf Islands National Seashore where you find white sandy beaches, sea oats growing and protecting the shoreline and nice sunny days. This interpretation I painted was a stormy version with wind and threatening clouds as is often the case in the Gulf south. The original painting is 11"x14" oil on canvas.

18" x 24". We travel the canyon highway quite often and it's always exciting when the tunnel finally appears. Carved through solid rock, it was built to avoid a dangerous curve in the road. It provided a way to get from the 101 Freeway to Pacific Coast Highway 1. I'm just happy to see it on every drive.
